    Fran.... in wind ??? look at top lol
    I grow one Kent hop on a telegraph pole..trouble is, can't get to the flowers in Autumn....but have many others only on 6ft fence...easier to handle lol.

    We have short telegraph poles around here. :D
    Its not too bad in wind as it grows for one or two years as a 2 to 3 ft plant, then shoots up this long flowering spike, after which it dies.
    What on earth do you use the hops for Ladybird?

    This is a shorter one, trouble is its not really hardy Echium Candicum

    Pete lovely plant....... Hops ? It has many uses, excellent windbreak,stems can be used for basket making, young shoots steamed and served as Asparagus,infuse flowers for a relaxing bath, boil leaves for a brown dye, also used to make paper and durable cloth,take a branch indoors for winter decoration and used in dried flower arrangements, apart from making beer. Not many plants or climbers so useful.

    Echiums are everywhere in cornwall..... Lovely plant but i can never get them through winter for the best bit...the spike the following summer..in Derbyshire
