Reading pals earlier comments in the weather thread wondering if anyone else is seeing it starting to see any sign of a reccesion biteing. talking to a mate of mine who fits kitchens and hes gone from normally having 6 months booked ahead to three weeks.

I cant say Ive noticed anything but the majority of my customers are the very wealthy retired with no mortgade.

What worries me is December jan and feb when I rely on one off type jobs eg fence replacement etc, and the pestcontrol. Hopefully ill be ok as getting folk at the moment to hold off jobs till then and I seem to do increasing amounts of property maintance and decorating for my existing customer base.

Hi guys. The meeting at work was attended by over a hundred workers and staff. The Boss was up beat and quoted over £10 million in jobs that we are expected to pick up in the next two months:) We don't do New Builds and folk are improving instead of moving and it's these refurbs that keep us going.
In total he mentioned figures up to a possible 20 million worth for this year !!
His experts predict 70% of new build companies will fold by 2009.
The company has improved the purchase costs and it's up to the work force to knuckle down and keep our noses clean to avoid any cuts;).

Sounds good news Pal :thumb: :)

Pro, I just had the council round to sort out wasps in a roof area . As I'm a wrinkly I get it at half price. Does this happen in your area and does it affect you much?

Shiney, The councils on either side of the border have both stoped doing wasps due to cutbacks, they now only do rats and mice (this provision is required by law for all councills).

Ive been getting quite a bit more work than normal, although even in the past I picked up a lot as I offer either a same day or next day service were as the council were taking two weeks.

Out of intrest what did you pay? around here I charge between £35 and £45 depending on distance which is roughly the going rate.

I work for a metals company and we have a healthy order book. Thank God and fingers crossed and everytuing....and we hope it stays that way for a long long time.

I was very very lucky in selling a property just before all the doom and gloom got to everyone. Put the property on the market mid-October 2007 and sold it in April 2008 and actually got the asking price too!! Thank God. :)

Maybe it is just me, but I get the feeling that the media do like to hype it up and everyone then gets on the bandwagon...hoicking up the prices as they go.

Hi Pro, it cost me £21. So the normal price would have been £42 as wrinklies get 50% discount. The council now sub out the work to a large company but I still had the same man come round that used to come when he worked for the council :thumb: :). They do our area on Tuesdays and Thursdays and always come on whichever is the first of those.

Good service at a reasonable price :thumb: :D.
