Good for you two for converting!

I use ecover washing up liquid, washing liquid and fabric conditioner, have done for years and get on very well with them. Occasionally use the bleach on grotty tea towels etc. and that's OK too. I find I only need about 50ml of the washing liquid plus about a tablespoonful of washing soda, to make sure my machine doesn't get scaled up (that is a general precaution, not related to the soap!). If clothes are stained or sweaty I find you need to apply the washing liquid undiluted, directly to that area, though. Generally it works fine and I wash most things at only 30 degrees :)

The loo cleaner is good too, but I don't use the bathroom cleaner because I make my own with vinegar and washing soda and water, and a few drops of peppermint oil to make it smell lovely - and just washing soda, water and peppermint oil for washing floors.

I use the BioD stuff - the disinfectant has a lovely clean eucalyptus smell and is very concentrated. Lasts for ages.

I think ethical consumer rated BioD higher, although I can't quite remember why. Something to do with ethics of financing? I stuck with Ecover though, as it's still rated pretty well and easier to get hold of.

We have used Ecover washing up liquid for years and wouldn't use anything else, tried the washing liquid but wasn't as impressed so use blocks.

Progard its really not to expensive when you compare it as a lot of it is concentrated.

I go ta £1 off voucher for the ecover laundry liquid cleaner so bought today and did a towel wash and has come out ok.

Claire where do you get the peppermint oil?Would liketo give it a go.

Do you have a link that you can shop on line an get it in bulk much cheaper.

I get the cheapest I can.
    Normally from the pound shop.
    Or own brands
I don't believe in all this global warming.
It's a natural phenomenon thats been happening for thousands of years , long before us mortals could get the blame.
Just another way for the government to get more taxes out of us.
Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

Some of the' cheepy stuff' is the same as the expensive stuff just packaged differently.
A lot of the own brand are great.
    Why pay more.
You could really go natural and use the things that were used before detergent was invented.
Like soda , lemon and vinegar.
    I'm a thrifty housewife .
    And I love a bargain.
    I hate wasting money.LOL

I use ecover because of water pollution far more than global warming. Surely gardeners should be worried about that? Mind you, some gardeners are happy to throw weedkiller and artificial fertilisers and pesticides about like they're going out of fashion - so maybe not. It's true though, I think using washing soda etc. is cheaper and also environmentally friendlier, but I have to say I've never worked out the cost.

Anyway.... Peppermint oil I get from boots or holland and barrett. You only need maybe five drops in half a (500ml) squeezy bottle of mixed cleaner (washing soda, vinegar and warm water, not sure on quantities - maybe a tablespoonful soda with about 100ml each of warm water and white vinegar?) - I only make up about half a bottle because it fizzes up a lot when mixed! It's probably better to make it up each time but I do tend to make half a bottle up at a time. I use about 5 drops also in about a third of a bucket of warm water with washing soda for doing the floors. A bottle of peppermint oil lasts me probably a year or more and costs maybe £2 or £3 so it's not too bad - then again I spend more time in the garden than cleaning the bathroom, it has to be said. Sometimes I add lemon oil as well, or geranium if I'm feeling exotic!

Another nice thing to do is mix peppermint, lemon and rosemary oil (about 3:4:1) and use a few drops with water in a vapouriser (if anyone else still has one!) or put some in a bowl somewhere warm, when you want a clear head - or lemon and geranium to revive and chill out...

*edit to add - washing soda you can get at most bigger supermarkets I think - about 60p for a decent sized bag that last me a few months. White vinegar ditto - I think a litre bottle is less than a pound. Natural collection do the shampoo etc. I use ( http://www.naturalcollection.com/natural-shop/Faith-In-Nature.aspx ) in big bottles (added the link because if you're interested in this stuff you might want to try that too) and some bulk offers on ecover but they don't seem that good - here's the cleaning products homepage, they also do Bio-D http://www.naturalcollection.com/natural-shop/cleaningdiy.aspx

I was watching how clean is your house or one of those progs the other week , and the lady on that uses all natural cleaners.
She cleaned a really filthy bathroom and kitchen with just soda lemon and vinegar.
Amazing, it was spotless and sparkling after.
