Bought one of these to give my lawn a dose of weed and feed, unfortunately the instructions are in German. Tried translator and it`s not really relevant to me. obviously gives dosage for German products.
So I bought Westland weed and feed, the slider for the rate dispensed goes 0-8,
read reviews of spreader and one person said he had tried 5 and had burnt patches on his lawn, didn`t say which product he had used, so any one had experience of these and a little guidance would be appreciated.

I lay a plastic sheet/tarpaulin in the garage (dry and no wind!!) and run the spreader over it N times neatly running over exactly the same row and distance. I length of the row, and the width that the spreader has spread, tip the fertilizer / whatever into a container and weigh it, and then I know that that spreader does "X Grams per Sq.M. when set to No.3" in future.

That was fine when I had seed-dribblers that just came out the bottom, now I have a "flinger" that has a much wider spread, and harder to calibrate that!!

Other way is to work out how much you need "for the front lawn" (i.e. by measureing the length x width of front lawn, and then multiple by the number of "grams per sq.m.". Lets say you need to apply 10kg. So you weigh 10kg into a bag and that's the amount you need to apply. Start off in one direction at the lowest rate that "does something" and see how much you use up when you have covered the whole area. Hopefully less than 10kg !!! Then either increase the rate-lever, or just carry on as you are and make a second pass at right-angles to the first.

My grass seeder has no adjustment and needs 15 passes to get the right amount of seed sown - absolutely useless in that regard!
