My first time growing these, they were planted last November and I pulled them up this weekend. We just had one roasted with our tea tonight - they are delicious!

Crikey John-they are huge! Been lifting the ones I had-not elephant garlic, just some spare cloves from shop bought ones and they are miniscule by comparison.. Well done.

I'm so glad they went well for you JWK. They look great.
I planted some last November and they have done NOTHING !
I've had the bulbs up twice for a look - not rotted, no roots, no shoots. Just sitting there doing NOTHING.
My ordinary garlic (Melody) has been just great. I'm mystified. Is there a secret I should know ?

Same for me with my normal garlic Claire, I just planted what I had left over and they are pretty small, they didn't seem to spilt into cloves either. I will have to buy some proper seed 'normal' garlic next year.

Sorry Alice, I don't know any secrets, maybe I got lucky. I did plant them deep and it wasn't until I pulled them up that I realised they were that big.

JWK. Where did you get the planting stock from, was it the Isle-of-Wight?

littleorm :hehe:; my 'normal' garlic have been poor this year, its only the elephant garlic that has done well.

Caj; yes, I bought the bulbs last year from the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm. Being a cheapskate I didn't pay extra for the 'seed' bulb. I bought some for eating but I kept one of the bulbs for planting.

Kandy; yes I found your photos, yours look good too :thumb:. I'm going to keep one of mine to split up and grow for next year.

ummm. Must try some of those.
Note to self: remember to source and plant garlic in Novemeber.
I managed about 6 in a large pot that where only good for drying and turning into chips.

That could explain it littleorme, I'm no expert on these, I just followed the planting advice from the Garlic Farm which said plant in Oct/Nov.

Just a word of warning now that Mrs JWK has surfaced, apparently eating these is very anti-social, they stink the house out which you don't realise until visitors turn up wearing face masks :hehe:
