I have just spent a very hot morning clearing out the large shed in my son-in-laws' garden. He's moving on Friday . Due to an injured wrist and hay fever he has not been in the garden very much at all, particularly the back half, which hadn't been entered for 2 months. Blackbirds are making free with raspberries etc and I found a big stone where the thrushes have been snail bashing, Lots of butterflies too and some lovely golden gooseberries which I sampled [as well as the raspberries]. Badgers have been rifling the lawn for grubs, and I found some piles of walnuts, all with a neat hole gnawed in the shell- must be from last year's crop. Roses, honeysuckle and clematis are winding over everything, and Alchemilla mollis and Love in a mist are taking over the pathways -it all looks quite good without any human attention.
Nothing but the sound of birds, bees, and even a cricket.
