I recently changed suppliers from Southern electric to N power.

Today I received a letter from N power stating that they were raising their prices by 5% in the 4 th Jan.

Now should I insist they come read my meter on the 4th Jan.
Can I insist they read my meter on that date??

As I'm not prepared for them to take a wild guess on how much I have used before that date.

Strikes me they do exactly as they like and the so called regulator ("off" whatever) is totally useless.
I think everyone should just keep giving these people as much hassle as possible, as they appear to just raise prices whenever they want.

Is there such a thing as an up front, lay it on the line, energy supplier.

And just one more thing, why can I never understand the person on the other end of the phone, it must be hard work for them as I only ever catch one word in three.:D

Hi Pete.I have had a few changes over the years with gas /electric suppliers . I have changed several times from one to another for several years. conclusion, They are All The Same. i have now established a company ( Scottish Gas) who supply my Gas /Electric and i pay by Direct Debit through my bank account.
This is December and i am Still in the Black with both Gas/Electric. i have had several offers with cheap tariffs from other companies . Summary ( Better with the Devil you Know) :(.

Pete - I am with Npower also . As you say their prices go up on Jan 4 , all the rest will rise within one or 2 weeks. If you go onto the Npower site you will be able to submit actual meter readings by Email. Also make sure you are on the best payment plan , I have both gas and elec with Npower , and pay by direct debit. The plan I am on is "sign online plan 16 " , what the other 15 plans are god knows ! :cnfs: Unfortunately you will have to phone the call centre for them to advise the best plan for you.

    Hi Pete,

I read that you can write back to them telling them that you don't accept the price rise & that will give you 60 days to find a cheaper supplier. Can't find the link but I think it was on Love Money site.

pete; I can never understand all the myriad of tariffs. They change them often on purpose to confuse so as to make it more difficult to make comparisons. They only certainty is we will all be paying more and more. Most of our energy suppliers are foreign owned so they aren't the slightest bit worried about customer care or support either.

Thanks, its nice know others feel the same way as I do.

I think it was better back in the bad old days when you didn't have a choice, and just had to use the gas/electric supplier that worked in your area.

These ones now are far too confusing with their pricing and cannot be trusted, I'm sure the Mafia is behind most of them.:D
