Last year I bought an Ensete 'maurelii' from Morrison's and grew it on into a very impressive plant by the end of the summer, but ultimately I failed to get it through the winter :frown: . I decided that I wasn't going to get another one this year and just concentrate on my Cannas............but whilst down town yesterday I saw some decent sized plants at our local florist being sold for £2.50 as they were end of stock plants?!, well it would have been rude not to :snork: , so looks like we're having another go with this magnificent plant

A bargain at that price Bilbo. I lost mine over winter too I think because I didn't get them dry enough going into storage.

      That's really cheap.

Of the 2 I had, only 1 made it through the winter in my garage.
And the survivor is really struggling.
I think I will have to keep it in the house this coming winter.

Beware that they "drip" from the leaves, so can mark furniture / carpets if indoors.

Mine put on a fair bit of growth last year and I dug it up, potted it and over wintered it in the heated greenhouse almost dry and started watering lightly in April. I planted it in early June and it really has taken off again. I don't think it would nearly have done so well drying it off completely.
Your still has time to put on some good growth Bilbo.

Ok , belive or not but today got 1 for 1 pound and while I was there even got a montbeliardi , but left beind a musella lasiocarpa with pink stem and a musa with a dark stem .
this year I will not follow anyone suggestion of let the plants dry , will keep them alive in the greenhouse . .....I`m still upset for losing my 3 giants .

You planning on getting some fruits then?

Best not to harvest the "fruits" from that Ricinus :heehee:

I'm not over pleased with the Ricinus, its "Impala", and all it wants to do is flower, I'd like some nice big leaves first.
Must try "Zanzibarensis" again next year.

Mine (various Ricinus) are not doing brilliantly this year, I've now upped the amount of water they are getting the try to encourage them. Slow spring start though, of course. Going to get some Nitrogen-only Chempak for them (and Nanas) as I don't think they need anything else in Miracle-gro :)

Is it worth getting this ensete from B&Q for £3?
will it make it through the winter indoors?
