How good are these at recovering from damage?

In order to save the dianthus deltoid under it, I had to cut a section of the erysimum bowles that was swallowing it up, I did this about 3 months ago.

I am now in a position to move the dianthus deltoid, but am worried the erysimum bowles wont fill in the gap that is there.

In the first photo you can see the gap to the bottom right, and in my opinion looks odd, in the 2nd photo is a closeup of inside the gap. You can see new growth starting to come through, do you think it will eventually grow out once the warm weather arrives and fill in the big gap.

    Thanks

If it is growing from low down it should be OK - unless we suddenly get a very hard frosty spell, which is unlikely now.

It's not totally hardy but is generally considered to be so. They are very easy to propagate from semi-hard wood in late spring and I suggest you take a few cuttings then, just in case. Our plants hadn't stopped flowering for almost a year but we cut them back to control the shape. They were getting a bit leggy. At the moment they are doing brilliantly and have reformed into thick healthy clumps.
