Does anyone else grow this? My neighbour has one in her garden and the flowers are almost luminous, really lovely plant although I know that it is sometimes considered a weed.

I've got one in a container that put itself there a few years ago. Every year I take some of the seed pods off to scatter to try to get more, but to no avail.

When I was in Sheffield, they grew as weeds through the patio, growing out of gaps between the bricks. I love them. They do seem to glow in the dark, and they go to sleep, actually closing up, during the day.

        Lovely plant :)

They do self seed freely so once you got one you'll have them forever.

Native of North America, all parts are edible and the seeds are a source of G.L.A :)

          What's GLA Zigs?

Also, while it may be edible, is it not jam packed with phyto-estrogen, a compound that is great if you're a post menopausal woman (apparently), but not so great if you're a bloke?

They are good for insects although I did not know what they were until a couple of years ago when I posted a photo for identification here. They first appeared in friends garden now in mine and welcome.

Great plant to have around the garden if you have children too.

My children always found it fascinating at dusk on warm summer evenings to watch those luminous yellow flowers unfurl in seconds, as if by magic.

Grow along the motorways and on the roundabouts here.
Got a few self seeded ones on the allotment.
