I wouldn't apply a weed and feed product at this time of year. Much, much too dry. It'll do more harm by scorching than good. You can try and water it in with a hose but it would then need prolonged (I mean 7 - 10 days) sprinkling to get it to take effect properly. Even then, any improvement would be short lived unless we got lots and lots of steady rain. Which is unlikely because early autumn is one of the driest times of the year, I believe.

I used to worry about my lawn looking brown during a hot dry summer. Now, I just accept it!

Thanks for that! Thought exactly the same and told the customer the same but just wanted a second opinion. :)

Up here in the North West since the period of dry weather, we've had plenty of rain (I blame myself for installing pop up sprinklers, its been quite wet since).
I've only had to water my patio pots and despite the hosepipe ban my two lawns are a lush green. Our golf course fairways have recovered and what rain we've had has not interfered with the several times a week I play.

    Hi lb7110

    I blame the advertising!

In appropriate weather conditions, I use Evergreen's Weed and Feed myself but I think the claims on the side of the packet lead to unrealistic expectations of what it can achieve. In a summer as dry as this one, you're simply not going to be able to have your lawn looking emerald green from spring to autumn unless you sprinkle it more or less continuously.

I've noticed that you're located further east than me so you're even drier, I believe.

    Hey Doghouse Riley

You couldn't send a little rain down south, could you? I haven't seen a good downpour since about April!

If I could parcel it up I would.

We've tended to get rain over-night recently. Didn't get wet on the golf course on Monday, tomorrow there's a chance of showers and looks like rain definitely on Friday.
I'm quite a keen golfer, but if it's raining at 8.00am on Friday morning, I'll just "turn over" for another hour's sleep. There's a limit to "being keen," though if it's a club competition as it will be next week, "you have to turn up" regardless of the weather.

As a routine, if there's a phone conversation between us and some of our friends and relatives who live in the London area, (we're ex-Londoners) if the subject of the weather comes up, we always say it's "fine" regardless of what it's like.
