    Hi there

Thanks to those who replied to my previous post about covering a 15 ft concrete wall/wooden fence with wild ivy. Just thought I would ask whether there are other evergreen vigorous climbers/creepers that I could consider? I picked ivy as it was the only one I could think of. Are there others or is wild ivy my best bet?

    Thank you
    Amanda

I have grown Clematis Cirrhosa 'Freckles', and Clematis Armandii In Canbridgeshire where they were evergreen. Cirrhosa has rather small speckly flowers from Autumn, Armandii has scented white flowers in late winter /early spring and lovely glossy laurel like leaves. Perhaps you could combine one of these with the ivy. [IMG]

Thanks for your reply Liz. It would be lovely to have flowers growing up the wall and those varieties sound really nice. I presume they wouldn't be able to cling to the wall without something to twine around. Is that right? I suppose if I got the ivy going first then they could cling to the ivy.

    Thanks again

It sounds like having an evergreen climber on an ugly fence would look lovely but how would you paint the fence behind it when needed?

    Hi there

I am like you and fences! I try to avoid ironing too, but I'm sure you are better than me in that respect! I'm hoping that the ivy will cover the fence so i won't need to worry. It belongs to the station so they can worry about the posts. :)

Hi, Yes they woul need something to cling to. mine were on a trellis. I think the ivy would do if it grew fast enough!
