Hi all, I have various colours in my garden, today I posted some seeds to a forum member, the seeds was from a white pea, growing at the side I have a purple one,

My question/concern is can they cross poll to give a different colour please ?.

Hi Martin, I can see no reason why not. Sweetpea specialists and commercial growers still, as far as I know, use cross pollination to try to obtain different colours and also try to get scentless varieties to become scented. There are many more rejections by them than successes, because they have to ensure the hybrid variety would be of commercial value.
So yes, they can cross pollinate to create a new hybrid.:hapfeet::hapydancsmil::coffee::snorky:

I thought that is what you were hoping for :heehee:
I'll keep my :fingers crossed: that at least one of your seeds comes out true to the parent.

Not sure if this is any help, but I once read sweet peas often self pollinate before the flower actually opens fully.
Breeders get in there fast cutting out the stamens before that can happen I believe.

So my guess would be that the seed should come fairly true.

Of course I have been know to remember quite a lot of twaddle that gets mixed up in my brain, so dont quote me on that.
