    Dear all,

I'm a 40 year old highly willing planter of living things, who's clearly not even remotely green-fingered, and having got my first garden ever in my life, earlier this year (which with I did the 'text book' ambitious plans for 5 beds of multiple vegetable patches - think Good Life, but without the humour or the hair), it appears that most of what I've grown is dying.

My potatoes (the leaves), lettuce and various kale and broccoli have started to die away on the leaves.

Can anyone identify / help advise what is going on? I'm really hoping I'm not the Dementor of the Gardening world, and that it's a simple fix.

Attached are photos of the Kale and the potato plants dying and what the vegetable patches looked like at the beginning when I though I was a gardening god!!!

    Thanks in advance... Jay

PS. I did a search for 'plants dying' in various guises, so please don't think I'm lazy in finding an answer to my plant-based demise!

You haven`t used a watering can previously used for weed killer have you.

Thanks for your swift reply. Not that I'm aware of in anyway, shape or form... I do travel every other week for work, and have four very willing, young gardeners that help to water the patches whilst I'm away. I did notice a few weeks back that a 2m square patch of my lawn had burnt / died... I hadn't put 2 & 2 together. When back from school, I will ask if they used a watering can at all... if hose, then I doubt it will be weed killer. But again... Is there anything I can do to make then recover?

Looks like lots of bugs or something in the first pic. Plants don't usually punch holes in themselves. The potato plants love lots of water - maybe pull of the dead stuff and water, water, water.

        I like your layout!

        Welcome to the forum Jay!

Thanks Lori... will do. The artichoke's are absolutely firing... shame no one in the house likes them.

Looks like slug and bug damage in the first picture. The potatoes: is that blight?

I pulled up a sample of pots and the actual potatoes themselves seemed ok... just seemed to be a systematic leaf apocalypse across all the veg patches! I'm now firmly thinking of pointing finger at kiddies!

First photo looks like a bad case of Flea Beetle, there are sprays you could use on edible crops but they need using with caution like all chemicals.

Second photo: I'm not 100% certain but that could be potato blight - would need a closer photo of the leaves and stems, this only affects potatoes and tomatoes so is unlikely to be causing other damage around your plot.

If the other veggies are dying too then it could be a contaminated watering can or overfeeding.

Third photo: All looks good to me.
