Been at work today for the start of the new term, and I have been officially told that I will be lecturing in Biology on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The reason I'm excited is that I am actually the laboratory technician and I haven't finished my degree yet (just entering final year part-time).
I haven't taught before, so I have a mix of excitement and absolute fear!
First lesson is September 20th......hope I dont shake too much!

Wow thats good news Ali. You'll be fine. I was a bit nervous beforehand, once I got into it, it was great.

What level are you teaching ?

Access to begin with, which is good as my students will be adults paying to be there (hopefully they wont be too much of a handful), Its the equivalent of 4 A'levels that gives mature students entry to uni. We are an FE college that also teaches double award A2 applied science, so I may progress to them next year once I'm doing my PGCE
    What do you teach Ziggy?

Good luck Ali. Remember, the students will know LESS than you do, hence why you are lecturing them :) I'm sure your first lecture will go brilliantly. xx

    Good luck Alison. :gnthb:

I once had the thankless task of trying to teach English to a gang of hungover au pairs first thing in the morning. I'm sure your lot will be much more with it.

Not really, they've all learnt about historic building conservation at college & are meant to be able to specify exactly what to do to the buildings, so they are a bit nervous of someone who is actually doing the work.

We have practical sessions, working on a purpose built "ruin". Its good for the professionals to get hands on & see what the work involves.

At work, I was asked to re set a large ledger stone in a church floor. I told the architect that there was probably a body under it. He asked what made me think that, I pointed out the surname on the stone was the same as on a wall plaque nearby & that there were small sacrificial stones around it, that could be replaced when opening it to inter a new body, a family crypt. He said, "you probably know more about church floors than I do" I just smiled.
