This baby tree has grown from a seed pod found on a beach in the east indian ocean, don't know which one. Looks like it's going to be a tree when it grows up. Has anyone got any ideas as to what kind of tree. The base of the trunck is begining to swell and the leaves started out pointy but the later ones are a different shape. mel\'s tree.JPG

Total stab in the dark, but it has the appearance of somekind of Sterculia/ Brachychiton.

    Anyway, I want one:biggrin:

PS, have you still got the seed pod?

Looks like a Brachychiton to me too.
Helen, I thought we had lost you years ago! (unless I have missed some posts)

Hi Pete and Strongy ... I actually hadn't thought of Brachychiton and mine is still alive and well. I thought of Liquidambar because of where the pod was found. :dunno:

We will have to wait and see Victoria.
But my money is still on Brachychiton, dont think its B. acerifolius though, the type we are growing.
The swelling stem gives a hint.
