Last night I happened to notice that I have a flower spike on my Bird of Paradise plant! I bought it for a fiver a few years ago at Homebase. It lives in a pot and goes outside in the summer and I never held my breath too much hoping it would reach a flowering stage. They are quite handsome plants in their own right so wasn't overly concerned. Now I can't wait for it to open!! I will proudly take pics!!!

I used to have a huge plant (probably caused by growing in too much shade!) one thing I always remember is that the flowers leaked a huge amount of nectar. It used to leave sticky puddles on the floor so you may want to protect your surfaces before the flowers open.
