Hi all youngest daughter is moving into a house next week that has a small area of fake lawn. She wants to replace it with the real stuff. Anyone know the best way to dispose of the horrible plastic stuff and any tips on laying turf? She has been told to wait until autumn but she has a little boy who will want to play outside well before then. Any advice gratefully received

She might want to look underneath as it may be laid on a solid base unsuitable for real grass without breaking it up.

No need to wait till the autumn to lay turf, who told her that? Now is an ideal time.

As @JWK says, the important thing is to know what is under the artificial grass. If it is just soil, then that will need to be dug over as it will almost certainly be hard packed and turf won't stand a chance on it.
To get rid of the artificial stuff, it if is just a small area simply cut it up and put it in the bin.

Turf is OK this time of year but will need regular watering. Seeds can be used in the Autumn.

What is good for young kids is a tough variety of grass. They still need to be kept off the turf for just a few weeks in order to let it establish.
