Family Tree/Ancestry Search

Has anyone every attempted/done this? I am wanting to find out as much as i can about my ancestors, be it their origins, occupations, anything, but I haven't the faintest idea where to start. I know only a few basic details (My mothers names/dates, my fathers name, Grandparents names/date of death, sibling information) and would greatly appreciate a push in the right direction...

I have done extensive work on my family tree. Start by googling "genealogy forums" and birth, death and marriage records. It can be frustrating work sometimes, I warn you. I have no idea what to look for in your country but start joining up to the genealogy forums and you will find lots of people willing to help you.

Thanks! I've had a look at several websites so far, and have been recommended to try ancestry.com by a friend on another forum.

Thankyou! Though that isn't possible. I no longer have contact, and that is part of the reason I moved from England to sweden.

Haha! I'm fairly sure I top that already with a heritage belonging to stoke on Trent!
