I love this kind of stuff:dbgrtmb: there are too many hedgerows going by the way side especially in this area...

I went to the 35th National Hedge Laying Championship event last weekend (an ex-neighbour was one of the organisers). They use chainsaws. Got some firewood to prove it.

I've got a double edged Billhook and all the BTCV training manuals, hedges, fencing, drystone walling, waterways etc.

A good old blackthorn hedge is good for laying, still got thorn in my hands from 20 years ago, chainsaws should be baned :nonofinger: from hedge laying, i find that the stem breaks to easy,
the guy laying the hedge was cutting the back bit off wrong, after you cut the stem, lay it and then cut the bit at is left off, you should cut from ground up and make a smooth cut, but with cuting from top to ground it will break not cut and if it not smooth water can lie in the brocken bits and rot the strump

Being a slow news day I thought i'd take a pic of my trusty tool. Needs an autumn sharpening and clean up.

Nope - no way - never. I am not posting a picture of my tool, no matter how trusty (or rusty) it happens to be :runforhills:
