I know you and others are mad on penguins, so when I went to Colchester Zoo I took some quick shots for you.

Love the close-up in the first shot Bananaman. If this is going to be a penguin page here are some more.

These were swimming in the Straits of Magellan and seemed very happy with the weather. They are Magellan Penguins. It was their summertime and 5 degrees centigrade. I was freezing in a 40 mph wind.

These are African penguins and were sunbathing on the beach in South Africa.

and this is the colony where they make their nests in the sand.

That second shot shiney is hilarious looks like he is enjoying a country walk! The close up of mine is the best I could manage with 2 inches of greasy thumb printed perspex between us.

    Great photos guys,
My mate served with 2para in the falklands, he too is obsessed with penguins. He credits them with saving his life as they used to pick their way through mine fields, and the lads used to follow them through in safety. Clever creatures, apparently they'd instinctively know where the bombs were and never set them off. Amazing!

    That's fantastic windy.
He WAS taking a walk in the country, but we were not allowed to join him as the ground was treacherous - although there were no land mines.

I like the way he's turned slightly to face the camera, he almost looks like he's smiling [IMG]

Super photos. I particulary like the African beach shot where it looks like the one is calling a meeting to order! [IMG] I've not seen (pictures) of penguins on sand ... or in grass ... before. Always thought they were snow / ice characters.
