Our Fatsia Japonica is growing but the young leaves are being munched on, deforming them when older. I hadn't seen any culprits until today I found this white slime. Any ideas what it is?! [IMG]

It looks like individual transparent eggs. I've wiped off as much as I can.

It's more jelly like, individual globules. I can't see anything in them but they're brand new today. Could they be snail eggs?

Me neither but it just reminded me of it. Jack doesn't think it is that, though

I doubt it is snail eggs as they bury them in the soil , problem living in London you tend to get new pest first before the rest of us .

are you a member with the RHS as you could send your photo to them to see what it is

if not, I am , I will send your photo but only with your permission first.

I'm not a member so that would be brilliant, thank you. Actually, I should add, I think I've seen older examples of these on this bush and they were a slightly drier amber orange colour.

I don't think they are moisture jell as I haven't used any, unless our neighbours have been flinging it around :)

              Could it be frost damage?
Frost can deform the early new foliage, it happens quite often, later formed leaves are usually ok.
Not sure about the slime though, could it be the sap from the damaged leaves?

Definitely being eaten, they have chomps in them when small and soft - like caterpillars which I suspect but haven't seen.

Go out at night with a torch, might look like and idiot, but often its the only way to catch the culprits.
