We've had threads about favourite flowers and worst weeds, I wonder if anyone else really likes any particular 'weeds'?
    My votes go for:
    Meadowsweet[perfume]
    Ivy leaf toad flax
    Primrose

My wife loves this creeping weed that grows on my north facing back wall,if I don`t catch it before it flowers. Don`t know what it`s called but when in bloom it has tiny lilac flowers.

I like clover, daises and butter cups, do they count as weeds?

That's ivy leaf toadflax- it's lovely, isn't it?
I think they all count as weeds as they often grow in the wrong place! I don't really know how you distinguish between a weed and a wildflower, let alone a weed and a plant.
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get meadowsweet, wild carrot, ivy leaf toadflax, and yellow fumitory to grow in my garden!

If I were to let it grow it would be anywhere and everywhere [IMG]

Having said that, it is a lovely flower and the leaves are beautifully glossy [IMG]

I would second your choices Liz and add foxgloves and yarrow. They both happily spread all over the place but I do like them.

Sorry Fancy about your mares tail problem. It is notoriously difficult to eradicate. Some people say bash it with a spade to crush the foliage and spray with glyphosate, like Roundup.
Or cover with black plastic and leave for about 5 years!

ok Blackthorn you can wait for 5 years but I cant. time is of the essence for me these days, also looking after a very sick hubby. If you look at my blog site arround the sweetcorn, mares tail have come through the holes in the black plastic(weed membrane) I know its nasty but will try roundup after my sweetcorn is up.

    thanks for the tip.

I don't think of primroses or foxgloves as weeds. My favourite weeds/wild flowers are daisies - the're prolific in my lawn along with clover (another favourite). Also poppies are glorious and look beautiful in the hedgerows.

Petal, I think that Liz, by using 'weeds' in inverted Commas, was including all wildflowers that in some situations are weeds.
Don't see many poppies anymore sadly, not in numbers like we used to. I remember whole fields and verges full of them, beautiful.

I just love dandelions - they are such a picture in the spring, always giving a great show even after the harshest winter. Not everyone loves them in their lawns but I do!

It's the wild geranium for me. My all time favourite flower, both wild and cultivated.

A.G. You must be the only person on earth who loves dandelions. Mind you, roasted roots make a wonderful coffee substitute and my childrens' pet rabbits loved them.

Goldfinches love dandelions too kryssy. It's one of those 'weeds' that if it were rare and difficult to grow we would all be waxing lyrical about it's beauty.
