Spent the last 3 weekends looking at houses, can't find any we like.
Looked at 3 yesterday all no good , one had no garden only a back yard smaller than my front garden , were not asking for a lot .
Then we looked at one that just needed a bomb dropping on it, rain running down the inside wall, no kitchen and no bathroom.
Looking at one tomorrow morning a 1930s town house.

ah Ian i don't envy you. I remember what a nightmare it was when trying to find a house 5 years ago

My main criteria was for it not to be mouldy. My previous flat has a massive mould problem and i could not do that again or go through the stress of it and losing clothes and shoes and furniture to mould

Took ages to find a house that had no visible signs of mould, which is the one i bought.

My other criteria was it had to have a driveway or the space to create a driveway and I didn't want an open plan kitchen and living room because my flat had had that and I was sick of the cooking smells getting in the furniture and curtains.

Kind of got lucky with the house i bought because I wasnt bothered that much about the garden then and the garden is south facing so :dbgrtmb:

hope you find a suitable one soon that you like  fingers crossed its tomorrows one so you can stop looking lol

I was you, this time last year.
It can be quite debilitating - particularly with the artistic license of some of the descriptions of properties!
I do know that you *will* find the right one, in the right location, at the right price.
I found this one in a location I hadn't even considered - and was fortunate enough to spot it the day it went online and before the estate agents realised it was for sale :roflol:
Try to stay positive: at least each one you see you get a clearer idea of what you don't want and won't compromise on

It's exciting at first and then soon becomes a pain. Whatever you do, don't settle because you're fed up of looking. I did and have regretted it ever since. If I could turn back the clock 10 years I'd never have bought this house.

We are going to put our house up for sale in the next few weeks. We have started to have a look at what is available, only trouble is everything we have seen have very small gardens compared to what I have now. I am not looking forward to it all, but needs must.

You would think it would be so hard to find a house with, off road parking, separate dinning room and a decent sized garden :wallbanging:.
I'm not bothered if it needs work doing to it

Just to wish you good luck. There will most definitely be a house out there just waiting for you. Don't rush into anything. I did, in 1989 and have had a long time to regret it, lol x

I remember the last time I was wanting to move, took about a year all told to find the house I wanted. Was moving a long way away so viewings limited to how much endurance I had each Friday after work as everything had to be done the weekends.
It should be exciting and adventurous, but that tends to wear off after the first disappointing viewings, then it's a bit of a chore. Not helped by deceitful estate agents and deceptive internet photos - I remember driving 100 miles to see a house that looked lovely on the internet, semi rural and all that jazz, only it had a massive haulage firm bang opposite. Was mightily angry.

Keep at it and as others have said, be prepared to know what compromises you'll make but don't compromise too far in desperation to have it all over and done with.

                        Fingers crossed for you.

Yep that is where you are asking too much lol

The trend for open plan living is what your fighting against. Lots of homes are knocked all the way through these days. Loads of people seem to go for kitchen, dinning room and living room as one big multifunctional space which personally works well in warehouse conversions for example but is highly annoying in a 1930s semi

and if they haven't knocked it all through you either just have the option of a separate kitchen and a living and dining room or a separate living room with a kitchen/dining room (which is what i have)

it certainly makes your search harder

Did you mean to say you didn't think it would be hard?, because whatever you want there will be hundreds/thousands of others after exactly the same property as you desire.

And needing work doing to it can be attractive to buyers as it means they can replace naff old stuff that's not to their taste with exactly what they want and get a price reduction for it.
