Its strange how cats have evolved, Dogs, Horses, Sheep, Cattle have all played a real role in keeping mankind safe or fed, but cats have done very little .. however we love them to death, hate it when they bring home the odd field mouse or bird and give them as much room as we can manage. But boy oh boy the purrs are worth it ... lol lol

Animals do love the sun don't they?

Our daughter kept rabbits. Her favourite was often in the house for a few hours when she came home from school (the rabbit was house trained!) It liked to lay in the sun near the patio doors.
It would move to follow the sun as it travelled across the sky, eventually the shadows would cross the floor and it would end up with just a small patch of sun, just enough to get it's nose in!

My cat is retired now, but for years he was a wonderful mouser who kept the house more or less free of rodents. He certainly earned his keep. We live in an old house with many nooks and crannies and it's impossible to stop them getting in. At first, I was sentimental about mice - I even bought those daft humane traps that they just laugh at - but once I'd seen what they were doing to my kitchen I was happy to let the cat do his worst. We had an arrangement. At night, he was allowed on worksurfaces on the basis that he wasn't quite as unhygienic as the mice. He'd sit there for hours, sometimes launching himself to land on any mouse which was foolhardy enough to scuttle across the floor. These days, however, he seems to have given up work. So many cushions, so little time.

ClaraLou I am not knocking cats, I have one myself and love her to bits. I was saying in a lighthearted way that cats for many generations have retained our affection for doing very little in return. Infact in most modern houses there is not vermin control needed and my cat gets told off for bringing mice or birds into the house (alive I might add) because I don't want them.

Of course, Martin - my comment was supposed to be lighthearted too. Anyway, my cat can stick up for himself. He has got very vocal in his old age :D.
