So today I have managed to get a greenhouse off freecycle - yes @Beckie76 one finally came up:blue thumb:

Now, I haven't seen it. All I know is that its an aluminium frame & has glass panes & couple are broken.

I have 2 questions - how hard are greenhouses to dismantle & how small do they dismantle to?

I've also managed to bags a wooden tool shed that I'm collecting tomorrow :hapfeet:

Been a good day for freebies :snork:

      Well done!

Assuming it's a standard 8X6 size then the max length of the frame sections will be 8ft. They are fairly easy to take apart, again assuming the bolts are ali and not rusted up steel ones. Worst case you'll have to hacksaw some bolts off, unlikely but possibly if it has a steel subframe/base. Getting the glass out without breaking requires a bit of patience, depending on the make the glazing clips can be awkward. There are spares available online for the most popular makes so you can get new bolts, glazing clips, seals.

Take along an indelible marker and mark each section/corner so you can put it back together the same way. Take loads of photos prior to dismantling, it's then easy to look back to see what goes where. Keep the bigger bits in one piece to save time, e.g. the door/vents don't need to be completely stripped down.

I fitted a 8X6 in the back of our people carrier, you'll need to make several journeys with a smaller car. Use loads of blankets/cardboard to pack the glass and stack it on it's side rather than flat - it will transport better that way, several sheets tied together in a bundle.

The fun starts when you get it home :dbgrtmb:

          Thanks @JWK
It took 2 hours to dismantle & I only drive a golf so it had to be properly flat packed! I took pics & labelled all bits - had to hacksaw some bolts off & only have 2 pane clips as the rest went missing ages ago apparantly! It's 6x6 so a nice size.
Definitely going to be fun & games putting it back together :hate-shocked:

Oh I'll post photos - it maybe in 2016 though:snork: Got to find replacement bolts & clips first:help:

            Good job :)

There's a few things to think about:
if you have a choice of sites align it North/South.
What sort of base for the frame to sit on? Did it come with one?
Have a concrete/slabs base or use soil?
How many vents? Get an auto-vent.
Make sure the base is completely square, measure across the diagonals and get that right before you fix the sides and ends.
Are you fitting guttering to catch rainwater to a butt? If so slope the greenhouse slightly towards the butt.

I'm sure there are lots more to consider :)

Wow thank you! Brilliant post :blue thumb:I'd never even thought of any of that - well, except the base. I've got a lot of concrete slabs that will be on top of soil, then sand. I'm not sure its got a vent:scratch:

Hopefully you took some photos of it ? By vent I meant a roof window (although you may have a side louvre type vent too).
