I'm very new to gardening. We have a 4ft fence that we'd like to cover with foliage but not plants that take up much width (so - tall and narrow). We have hedges at the moment but they don't look good so we want to take them out. The bed is only a metre wide and we're hoping to be able to put some plants in that decrease in size to groud level(ish). Any ideas? Any help much appreciated!!

there was one thread about bamboo that's not invasive - but I can't spot it at the moment - I think it was iun one about a big yellow van ( to disguise seeing it!)
