    Hi

I’ve uploaded a photo of mine and my neighbour’s fence. I’m looking to cover the fence gaps to make it more private. Does anyone have any ideas/done this themselves? I thought about cutting 2 rectangles of bamboo but worry it just falls to bits - I don’t really want to cover the whole fence. The fence is next to my steps so can’t really grow anything in the ground to trail up (and looking for quick solution)

    thanks

Does the fence belong to you or your neighbour or is it jointly owned @Karen1986?

It belongs to us. My neighbour would like privacy as they sit there too.

As it's yours, and you all want privacy, the easiest way is to attach more vertical planks to the horizontals on your side to cover the gaps - a hit and miss fence as it's often called, or a double sided fence.

I did my main boundary fence like that [ although horizontally ] as it's also in the path of the prevailing winds. The existing one we inherited between us and the neighbour is the same type of construction, and vertical, like yours.

I have a fence like that, perhaps with narrower gaps. I leave it because it lets some light through to my patio plants. You might want to consider that

The suggestion by @fairygirl is the most practical.

When new neighbours moved in next to us they had a timber lodge installed in the garden and their parents moved into it! They used 6' high bamboo rolls, attached to the existing fence to provide privacy. Looks hideous and is already breaking up after just a couple of years.

I would just have taller plants (in bigger pots), perhaps even a couple of small trees.
