My neighbour today, has "fixed" the fencing that was between our gardens but I'm really unhappy. I childmind and have up to 3 pre-school kids plus 2 school age kids at a time. I also have my own 4yr old child. My garden fence today has gone from this (all that really needed done, and we knew and were trying to organise someone to do... was to remove & replace that wobbly 6ft post, the new post was lying in our garden waiting, but neighbour has "kindly" used it today, grrrr):

to this.... the gaps between each board is more than big enough for a child to climb through!!!

Anyway, my reason for posting: we're really not financially in a position right now to buy replacement boards (neighbour "kindly" dumped that ones that were removed), and I was thinking about getting something like this to tack along the bottom to keep the kids in: http://www.diy.com/nav/garden/fenci...-Green-L-10m-x-W-1-2m-11987883?skuId=12498589

What would I need to attach it to the fence? Nails? Some type of hook things?! (You can tell I'm no fencer!)

Or you can buy staples as pictured at any ironmongers and just knock them in with a hammer. images.jpg

Or, just tie it on firmly with garden wire.

found chicken wire on Ebay, 10m x 1.2m for £13 delivered. Would chicken wire do the job just as well? it's simply to keep little people in my garden

IMHO I don't think chicken wire is child friendly as the wire can be sharp:)I wouldn't use it anywhere near children;)

Scaffolders Debris Netting might do. Mine has lasted 4 or 5 years already (I use it to cover vegetables that would otherwise get eaten!). You might well be able to blag some from a building job nearby that is finishing as scaffolders normally throw it away rather than reuse it.

I get mine from Tarpaflex Only negative is that it probably isn't as strong as rigid plastic netting, or plastic-coated-wire netting, and if the kids pull on it it may rip off the retaining staples.

Have a look on Freecycle/Freegle Snowbaby, someone might be offering a fence/net offcut for nothing.

Try PVC mesh instead. It's plastic but quite sturdy :) You can get different heights with smaller or larger holes.

You can attach them using netting staples.
