    Hi all,

I have a part of the garden which receives around 1-2 hours of sunlight a day when the sun first appears. It's basically a wall (filled with soil) in the corner of my north facing garden next to my house. When we first bought the house the wall had a hydrangea planted in the top which i transplanted to an area that got more sun. I filled the wall with fox gloves which did well but went crazy tall to reach the sun. I've seen that ferns grow well in shaded areas and i really like the look of them.

Can anyone recommend a decent fern that would suit a well shaded, sheltered spot?

    thank you in advance!

Dryopteris filix-mas 'Christata' male fern is a really nice one and has won the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Don`t forget a lot of ferns disappear through the winter , so you will need other interest so not just a bare patch of ground, mine are only just poking through now.
