You may or may not no but over the past few months I have had a cough that I can't get rid of even after taking antibiotics.
It seems to get better then back again it comes as bad as ever.
This is a bit of a mystery to me apart from the cough I am active and healthy.
I have been in the garden over the last few weeks digging out ferns / bracken that had become very over grown.
It's been a hard job but I seem to be winning at last.
It seems every time I am working with them my cough gets worse and my eyes become sore and itchy.
Could this be the cause do you think ?
Is there something in the fern that I could be allergic to ?
I don't seem to get it with anything else.
Or is it just a coincidence.:cnfs:
I just wondered if anyone else as this problem.

Hi Lyn, Could it be some form of hayfever do you think? In which case an off the shelf antihystemine could work. I never had hayfever until last year and now seem to have it all the time. Been gardening for 30 odd years too. John

My Nephew was instructed to wear a mask when he is tree felling among Ferns and Bracken because of the spores.

I was going to suggest the spores too, can't be good for the soft tissue of throat and lungs

I don't think this is hay fever.
I used to have that as a teenager and it's nothing like that.
This is more a tightening of the chest and a need to keep clearing my throat and of course a cough.
I have had a sore throat as well.
I have finished removing the ferns now so I'll see how it goes.
If I don't feel any better in a few days I will go back to the Doctors and mention about the ferns.
Thats if I can get an appointment.
    (Thats another thread) :D
    Thanks for the replies .

I haven't been gardening since Sunday.
Haven't as much as looked at a Fern and my cough as almost gone.
I feel so much better even though the weather is very cold and damp.
    A coincidence, maybe.

No such thing as coincidence Lyn-you`ve cracked it I think.

See if you can get hold of a mask-failing that you`ll have to the midwestern cowboy thing-got a `kerchief??

Lyn, have you started on blood pressure or cholesterol reducing medication lately, as one of them has a little dry cough as a side effect.

No, the only thing I take is Thyroxin for my under active thyroid.
I have been taking that for years.
I think I may have been a bit premature about my cough going it was back again last night and I'm feeling a bit choked up again this morning.
I really don't no what it is .
It's been weeks and weeks since I had that chest infection.
The Doctor says my chest sounds clear.
But my throat looks red and sore.
The antibiotics didn't make the slightest difference.
By the way I'm a none smoker.
I'm off to Spain next week so I'll see how I am when I get back.
Maybe a few days in the fresh air will do the trick.
