I have come across a sack of this at the garden where I work. I tried some on the moss and it killed it almost overnight! On the limited instructions on the sack it says,'harmful if swallowed' Does anyone know if this refers to humans or animals/pets? We have peacocks from the neighbouring farm.....they spend more time on our side of the wall unfortunately, eating my flower heads and tipping up the bird feeders for the lit'luns etc and altho' I do curse the peacocks, I would hate to be responsible for their demise! Any idea what ratio to use this stuff???? I have tried to look it up but couldn't really find the info I wanted.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Red,ferrous sulphate is actually used in tablet form for people with aenemia to relace the iron in their blood it can be dangerous when taken with other medicines hence the warning,it is also used in lawn sand specifically to kill moss assuming that the ferrous sulphate is heptahydrate then the application rate
is about 5g per sq.metre or 2 tablespoons per watering can, once you have killed the moss rake it out, it should not harm the peacocks it naturally breaks down, ferrous sulphate is transformed to iron oxides and hydroxides which are ubiquitous natural components of soil.

Red, it is also used as a worm killer in lawns, and also as a fertiliser. Another name for it is Sulphate of Iron.

I use it very regularly and just tell my customers to keep pets off till its dry.

I use a half tea cup in 10 litres of water and spray from a knapsack sprayer.
