I have two containers about a foot in each dimension outside my front door on the north side of the bungalow thus no direct sun but nothing directly overhead to produce shade from above. Two part question really - is this location "shade" or "partial shade" and will Fastigiata Robusta live there happily for a few years until too big when I would relocate them to the garden. Advice gratefully received.

Ahh..you are talking about Taxus baccata Fastigiata Robusta...the upright growing Irish Yew.

Yews will grow in sun or shade.
But why keep them in a pot...they would be far happier in the ground.
Unlike many other trees they can be trimmed..so IF/when it grows too large just prune it!
You can even cut all the branches off right back to the trunk and it will regrow.

Or be creative and start topiary with them!
