Can anyone help please. Last year at BBC Gardeners World show at Birmingham I bought a Blue festuca it was a misty light blue an should get to 1 metre diameter. To my dismay I find that at present it is only growing green shoots. Is there anything I need to do to retain the original blue?

    Hi S70
Where have you got it growing? For optimum colour they need full sun & well drained soil. Also some cultivars colour better than others such as "Elijah Blue". Some un-named forms can be quite disappointing. Having said that, the new shoots on mine are greenish, then turn blue when they get their heads in the sun! If you like blue/silver grass try these 2 First one is Astelia chathamica "Silver Spear" - broad iridescent sliver/blue leaves - can grow quite big or Helictotrichon sempervirens (2nd pic) which is taller than Festuca with leaves slightly wider, but very silvery.
