    Hi there

Just going to try and upload a couple photos and asks some questions about couple of things in my garden firstly. Can anyone tell me if this a plant or a weed thats popped up?

The next two pictures i think might be of a clematis? I thought was dead at first but i've been watering it and it is actually alive still [IMG] . Could anyone tell me what it is and what to do with it? Am i supposed to prune and how much?

And finally just thought i'd post a pic of the Ivy that i've been having a fight with few months that was covering pretty much everything and is also appears to be holding a wall up!

Most clematis die down over winter as do most non everygreen plants, it's a scary time as you get the impression that they have died but don't rush to dig them up as you will be surprise how one month something looks dead but by the next month it's shooting new growth.

As you have only been in your new home for such a short period it is sometimes best to wait and see what pops up in your new garden although you are sure to have a few weeds you might just also have many a little gem in your new garden just waiting to say hello......as for that ivy what a horror I should imagine it's hanging well onto that wall.Hel.xxx.

the first photo is a Ranunculus ficaria, possibly 'Brazen Hussy'. its a form of the native celandine and some people consider it a weed, although i quite like having a 'brazen hussy' it give the neighbours something to talk about! :D

If it were me I'd leave the clematis, have a look at the flowers and try and work out what type it is. Some really appreciate a hard hack (if you don't they get very leggy). But if you're too heavy handed with others they'll sulk and refuse to flower at all!

    Enjoy your discovery [IMG]

Problem with pruning clematis is that there are three types which require a different approach including some that only require shorteneing of stems as well as those which you prune right back.
The arger and later flowering ones are generally cut back to the first bud whereas early ones such as Montana only need a trim.
