Ficus elastica possibly growing new leaves where I didn't think it could?

Sorry if this isn't the correct place for this!

So I have a Ficus elastica robusta indoors which unfortunately didn't have the best start and has lost quite a few of it's lower leaves. It seems to be doing a little better these days and I have a new leaf currently emerging from the top.

I was under the impression that once leaves has dropped from the bottom none will ever regrow (please excuse my ignorance if this is not true) however I am starting to see little red nodules appear in various places which I am wondering if are in fact new leaves slowly appearing?

I have attached some photos if someone wouldn't mind offering some advice :), thanks!
