I have never grown Figs before and this tree grows along the fence, second year in fruit and it has done better this year. Any thoughts on how long does it take for Figs to mature.

If we ever get some sun they might ripen! you can tell when they are ripe as they will hang downwards on the plant, they will have started to turn brown, and may be sticky at the base of the fig. I've found that if I leave them for a couple of days after picking, they taste sweeter.

Getting a bit late now for ripening, its been a lousy summer and fruit like figs really do rely on good weather in the UK.

Hope you get at least a few ripen Fancy.

I thought they only went brown if they were Brown Turkey or other such variety .... but what would I know about figs .... ??????....

You know a fig is ripe when you hold it and twist ever so slightly and it comes off in your hand. :thumb: It should also be 'slightly' soft to the touch. :)

Hi there my old mate, the Figs this year have done so well must be the weather they must like the rain. I am not so sure if they will ripen as we are still waiting for the Summer and sunshine. It will be just like my bananas still waiting for it to fruit.
