    Hi all,

I'd like some advice about filling in the gaps between patio slabs. My patio has undergone two extensions at about two years apart. There are varying size gaps between the slabs ranging from 2mm - 5mm that I'd like to fill to stop random grass and weeds growing. I understand that brushing a dry concrete mix into the gaps then watering with a can/hose is one method, but I'm not sure of the cement/sand ratio. Anyone shed any light on this or offer any other solutions?

    Many thanks,
    Matthew

There's lots of different ways of filling the gaps but you will always always always get at least a few small weeds and grass growing...
You'll need this confirmed (Pro Guard?) but 6-1 sand to cement would probably do but don't water it in and brush off any loose as soon as poss. Tamp it down into the cracks with the edge of a board or similar.

Dry mix never works well and isnt something id ever sudgest. Thew gaps are too small for wet sand and cement moartar pointing.

I sudgest you pressure wash it to lift the dirt, let it dry then brush in kiln dried block paving sand, being dry and fine it settles unlike builders sand. Spray with pathclear to help prevent germination.
