The weather being grotty again today I decided to have a clear out. I came across an old Canon digital camera with a film still in it. My question is, what are the chances of that film still being viable for developing please, it's got to be a good ten years old?

Think I have a roll of undeveloped 35mm somewhere.

I'm just guessing, but film always carried a "process by date", so thinking that its proibably not much good.

Didn't know a digital camera takes film.

Pete, I've only got the cartridge not the box and there's nothing stamped on that. The only way I would find the date now is to have it processed and hopefully any pictures would tell me, but as you say it's unlikely it will develop.

It's not a DSLR John but one of the first cameras to function digitally. I've been looking on the web for information and can't find any, so tomorrow I'll take some pics of it and post them here. :)

If my understanding is correct, provided no light has come into contact with the film then it can be developed.

That's good to know Rad thanks, I rewound the film before removing it, so it's completely intact. What is annoying though I'd only taken five shots on a 36 exposure!

I'll check out the price of getting the film developed and make my decision on that.....but there's a certain amount of intrigue involved, what's on those pics? :)

I don't hold out much hope, years ago when I got my first video camcorder I forgot all about the half used film in my old Super 8 camera, then after a couple of years I found it again and got it developed it had all faded nothing was visible. You won't know unless you try though Sheal, there might some gems on there.
