After moving in six years ago we are finally getting round to doing the back garden. I have made some temporary veg beds, and we are hoping to put some decking down this weekend/next week (weather permitting).

I shall try and do some before and after pictures to post at some point.

It's amazing how long it takes to get around to these jobs when you move to a new house - but an exciting thing to look forward to.

I hope the Bank Holiday weather treats you well and I look forward to seeing the pictures of your hard work :)

Do you have any other plans for your garden?

Tim good things happen to those that wait although I can say once you start on your decking it all comes together really quick, good luck with the weather I'm sure the forecast isn't great though over the bank holiday.:( Hel.xxx.

Sorry it's taken so long to post some proof of progress.

    Day 1 Saturday 24/05/08

I managed to do some clearing Friday night and this how it looked first thing Saturday morning. The site were the decking was going was originally where some one had had a greenhouse (gone before we moved in) and had been vaguely converted into a patio with a large bed at the front.

My OH's parents had agreed to have my two girls for the day so we could really get stuck in. Fortunately the weather was very good and we were able to spend all day till quite late on the job. At the end of the first day we had done all the preparation and built the frame - including concreting in two legs at the front.

Because of the slope oof the garden the back of the decking could just lie on the concrete base of the former greenhouse.

    Day 2 Tuesday 27 May 2008

Weather was pretty poor today so we were having to dodge the showers and work mainly thorugh drizzle. The girls were with their Grandparents again so we could work on this for most of the day.

At the end of the day this is where we'd got to.

Unfortunately we ran out of screws and time so couldn't finish the boards - especially as I needed to cut a hole across three of them to go round our relatively new plum tree (planted last summer). Emily (3 and a half) was quite impressed with Mummy and Daddy's efforts though.

    Day 3 Saturday 31 May 2008

After a quick trip to B&Q to pick up a small amount of extra timber(due to my miscalculations) and more screws, we eventually finished all the boards and I even had time to put some steps together.

Both Emily & Isabel (14 Months) have already claimed it as theirs.

    Thursday 5 June 2008,

Unfortunately Isabel had a very severe viral and secondary bacterial infection and Isabel and Amanda (OH) were in Pembury Hosiptal from lunchtime till midafternoon on Friday.

Friday 6 June 2008 - Emily and Isabel's play house arrived in several pieces.

    Saturday 7 June 2008

Spent some of the evening starting to assemble the playhouse only to find that the fixing pack and instructions provided were for an entirely different style playhouse (completely different shape) so had to make it up as we went along.

During the following week Emily helped(?) Amanda paint her new toy.

I haven't got any more recent phots yet, but will post them once taken.

Isabel is fine now - however having not eaten much at all for about five days she is now trying to make up for it and she is eating anything she can get her hands on.

Fortunately both sets of grandparents only live 15 minutes away. :D

Wow, you've made a cracking start there! Your little helpers seem pleased with their parents' hard work, too!

I love your deck too, it's something I'll be tacking myself in the not so distant future - all being well the weather improves for me!

I look forward to seeing more of your work :thumb:

Tim you've done a brilliant job and so very strong looking too which is how all good deckings should be. I know they're pretty quick to knock up (weather permitting) but done right and with a little maintenance they will last years and give you and your family many years of pleasure.

Glad to know your little girl is better it's always a worry no matter what age your children are when they're ill.

Wishing you better weather where you are than what we have here because at the moment I'm feeling like a kid again..... grounded and can't go out because it's raining!:D

I was wondering though if your daughters intend to have mummy run up some curtains for their new little play house? because my goodness wouldn't that look so cute!;)Hel.xxx.

John, I'm in stitches. My sides hurt now, thank you for that! Very good.

Tim, must say I agree with Helofadigger about the curtains. I did that when my child was little & he (!) was a boy, lol. Mind they weren't lacy nets:).

We want to see it with all the bits in too, you know little table, chairs, tea set etc. I never had one as a kid, do you think that's why I'm so interested to see yours? Helen, are you the same?

    Love the colour of it.

    cheers

Curtains have already been requested as well as some window boxes and othe pots/boxes for them both to plant up.

I will try and get some up to date photos of it done tonight. Emily calls it her cottage in a wood as it has been pushed to the back of the deck and is partly under the Bay tree on the right.

We have got to get the garden sorted fairly quickly as the list of people to come over for barbeques is getting quite long ao we need to get a move on with the invites.
