Hi, I have just bought a Findlay Irvine auto heat 3kw and have been assured they are a reliable heater. I realise the firm is no longer trading and wonder if anyone can tell me if the fan runs continuosly as it does seem to and I think this will be most wasteful of electricity. John
Hi John Its a "feature" of those heaters, the fan itself wouldn`t use much power. The thermostats are somewhat unreliable, so its worth using an external stat which also takes care of the constant fan issue.
I agree with Hex most heaters with built in thermostats are not accurate the heater when on builds up heat in the casing cutting the heater off prematurely external thermostats are much more accurate, I did purchase a plug in digital thermostat to plug my heater in only to find when pulling power the unit generates some heat and has an inaccuracy, I had a word with the manufacturers and they failed to cure the problem so nothing is totally reliable.
When I had a fan heater in my greenhouse I had a greenhouse thermostat (with a long metal "rod" that was the actual control bit), and I positioned that amongst the plants exactly where I needed the heat to be right.
