Hi, I have a Dahlia tuber and believe it is best to wait until after the last frost before planting, is this so? I am not sure whether to say tubers as in plural, because there are many bulb-like things from the same central point - can they be broken off and planted separately? And if it is best to wait until after frosts, where ought I to store them? Are they best grown in pots or open soil?

Not a good idea to break off the tubers, they might root but a dahlia will only grow shoots from the neck of the old stem from last year.

You can plant in the garden before the last frost, but only if the tuber is dormant, any green above ground growth would be killed by a frost.

I tend to pot new tubers up and grow on until I plant out in early May.
You can store them cool but frost free for a month or so yet easily.
