Any roses in flower yet? My ancient Fruhlingsgold is just opening and should look good tomorrow (if it stops raining!)

I've got two very wayward scrambling roses, one pink and one white, that are covered in buds. They will flower briefly and very prettily and then spend the rest of the year trying to take over the garden. 'Compassion' also has loads of buds, but they all need respite from a week of rain, and a few sunny days, before the flowers open.

My inherited single yellow climber - that is scambling through the lilac - is showing some colour - but will need a couple more days.

Lets see a picture of the first member rose that flowers this year eh.

This climbing yellow has been open a couple of days but the pink home sweet home has yet to burst.

This is my first rose of the summer - Fruhlingsgold. It is quite old and moved with me from our previous garden. It grows to 7 or 8 feet as here. Flowers are short lived and do not repeat.

My yellow climber by the front door has opened in the last couple of days - can't take a pic as its a howling gale out there!!! I have also lost about 4 or 5 new branches due to the wind...

Odd isn't it - that all our "firsts" are yellow ones. Must be in their genes and country of origin.

Sorry you still have gales - weather here is much calmer now. Blue skies and sunshine all day. Lawn dried nicely and I've just mown it. Time for tea.

I used to have a yellow climbing rose which was always out very early, but it repeat flowered slowly right through summmer. It was a single rose with long orange/yellw stamens, beautiful clove scent and lime green glossy leaves. I'd love to track it down.
I've just come inside as it is pouring again. No wind but the jackdaws have broken a branch of 'compassion' taking 3 buds as well. :(

Liz, Arthur Bell is an absolute cracker. Great climber as well as a bush.

That's a very pretty shape. Does it smell? I have a new 'buff beauty' which looks yellow in some pictures, although my sisters' is more like its' name.

oh hornbeam can't remember it I have frhulingsgold or fruhlingsmorn, but it is a dreadfull performer for me and I am desperate to "degarden" it but for the fact that David Ausitn says I should love it.

Fruhlingsgold is not a great looker, but it does smell nice. I only keep it because I've had it for such a long time. The foliage is a good green and makes a backcloth for the other roses that come along later. I don't grow any hybrid teas or similar 'cos I don't like their strong colours. I have some really old roses like the gallica and damasks, but my main interest is with the English Roses of David Austin - simply superb!

Sorry hornbeam but I have not done as well with DA stuff. I do keep some stuff going as I have paid so much for the it, but I find their habbit lax and unreliable - I mean they probably just don;t like me, but after 16 years I have now reverted unashamadely to HT's

I'm on fairly stiff clay so perhaps that helps. I love them and let them grow as big as they like. Buds are plump now - soon, very soon...
