    hi there,

Never grown cabbage before and decided to grow some red cabbage (the only type that I like). Bought a few plants a few weeks ago and chucked thhem in the ground where I had space. Are they looking ok?! I'm not sure what I should be doing with them? Are they usually stalky at the bottom?!?

Any thoughts/advice appreciated as always :)

Well, I never fed a cabbage and I never netted a cabbage.
But things seem different these day.

Probably best to ask someone else, but they seem to be doing just fine to me.

          It does look good snork!

Suppose it comes down to how "bad" the birds and butterflies are with you. I've netted mine and someone else didn't, birds have had a field day and apparently there was eggs all over the remains.
Also, I read about wind rock where that stumpy bit wobbles about.. don't do much for the roots apparently so lob a bit of soil round it, won't do harm.

I don't grow brassicas in the summer as the babbage whites eat em all, so net, yes :)

Thanks peeps. So tomoz i'll head down to poundland and get some of that fleecy stuff....had a sad incident of a bird caught in the strawberry netting and I was so angry I don't want to use "netting" again. Will stack up the root area as per Linz. Id never noticed babbages with the weird root stalk bits before..:thought I had aliens. Lol.
