Well, for the last 8-9 months I have been keeping Tropical Marine fishes.

Here's a couple of shote of my 180Litre bow fronted aquarium :-

    This is how it started

    Fluval Vicenza 180

Then this is how things have got

    Some Zoanthid polyps

    Banggai Cardinal Fish

    Yellow Tailed Blue Damsel

    Royal Gramma

    Midas Blenny

To say it is a toroughly absorbing hobby is an understatement, and it has been great to learn something completely different.

Bearing in mind, this is my first ever fish tank I have kept .......... And I had to jump in at the deep end :hehe:

I don't think I have the 'courage' to go marine! seems more like a full time job.
There can be enough problems with 'freshies'.

Well done Nathan, it IS looking good:gnthb:, more colour than my community tank.:)

Lovely tank and fish you have there Nathan:thmb:.I bet you have hours of pleasure watching them and they are so relaxing:)

When I was with my ex hubby we had a marine tank and I used to love watching the clown fish in the anemones. We had a Surgeon fish but when we introduced a Moorish Idol, the surgeon fish nearly rippped it to shreds so we had to take him back to the shop:(.I do love looking at them in the shops especially the ones like your little stripy black and white one with the spots{can't remember the name of it}but the price of each fish tends to put us off a bit:p

We have some tropical fish which we are breeding with{guppies and platties}and are trying to get some good colour combinations ready for the fish guy who has them off of us:)The nearest we get in colour to marine fish is the blue rams, the colours in them are delightful:D

I'll edit my post with the Fish breeds ;)

As with any hobby, the cost can be as much as you want to pay, though the fish can be rather expensive, there are bargain fish out there in the Marine world also ie the Yellow tailed Blue Damsel (Approx £5).

I did a lot of reading on the subject of Marine fish keeping before commiting, reading/buying books on the subject, going to our local Pets at Home and asking questions (on numerous occasions :D ), we are now on first name terms with everyone in Pets at Home :hehe: .

Basically, if you are keeping fish, whether they are Fresh, Tropical or marine, you still NEED to have the correct water parameters and do tests, the extra test you would do with marine over Tropical is basically Salinity, so really not that more compicated.

    Around 8-9 weeks ago, I purchased a 2nd hand 'nano' tank :-

After buying some more Live rock and some Green Grape Algae (tank came Red Grape Algae) andthe Red Bamboo Algae (round red piece, bottom left) it started to look like this :-

and after about 7 - 10 days, the Algae had taken hold really well

And given another week or so, it had gone mad ...

And the reason for the tank ?

    These beauties, Hippocampus Kuda :-

Nice to see the second tank set up Nathan, especially with my favourites, the sea horses:dbgrtmb:

Mr Kandy came with me when I said I would like a tank, something that I have wanted to have since I was quiet young and we settled for an Aqua-EL{40litres}:D

It would be nice if you were successful in having some little ones with your sea horses and it would be nice if you let us know how you get on with them:)

It is very common for people to successfully raise young, for a fish that is 'difficult' to keep, they breed easily.

I have heard of seahorses more or less constantly pregnant and giving birth, the female transfers eggs over to the males who carry the eggs for between 3-4 weeks before giving birth to live babies, so fingers crossed
