Is it just me or has anybody else had worse than usual aphid problems this year?

Usually they stick to the roses, but this year they're being less discerning. So far I've found them on Roses, Prunus, Laurel, Camellias, Escallonia, Arbutus Unedo and even on my Hazel tree

Can't wait for the arrival of the ladybirds en masse. Not much sign of them yet although I have just very carefully avoided spraying a larvae so maybe they'll be here soon :dunno:

I've not actually noticed noticed many around here, probably less than normal.
I'm guessing the cold wet conditions have deterred them, like they have most of us.

2 weeks ago, I had a revolting invasion of blue/grey aphids that were sapping strength from a pretty blue lupin that I love. I am useless at handling or personally slaughtering insects or pests such as these and I resorted to an insect spray gun. I watered the plant after a couple of days to clean it and it has recovered and is showing fresh spathes .

My house plants/seedlings were covered in whitefly before the move. When I moved everything got shoved out in the small courtyard for a few days which reduced the infestation, although not on the Impatiens niamiannensis for some reason...........

You may not believe this, I don't think there's such a thing as aphids here on the island, very few other flying pests either, I've not seen any in the twenty years I've lived here. Plenty of slugs and snails though.

I've probably just tempted fate! I'll end up with a plague of locusts now. :heehee:

Yep. The dirty boogers are sucking the life out of EVERYTHING. And not many ladybugs around either. Saw a couple today doin the dirty so that means SOME babies. Have seen a couple of hoverfly larvae but need a plague to SORT the plague. I've had those fat, nasty gray blue ones on my lupins too. Huge!!!
