I have a problem!! Badgers are ripping ten bales of...... out of my lawn ! I understand that they r after leather jackets but they're wrecking the place - I actually think it might be a big extended family plus cousins, aunties and uncles !!! We have the sonic deterents but they have a limited range, They do seem to work but we'll need several hundred to cover the lawn !! - Its about half an acre of grass . The whole place is 1.4 acres so fencing will be prohibitively expensive . I've been told that spraying with 'crossfire' will do for the leatherjackets but sadly I don't have a P.A. 1 and 6 so I can't get my mits on any of that and gather that its hard on the worms anyway . I don't know but I'm sure I've heard that human hair can be a deterent or am I imagining that ? If u can help I would be forever in your debt

Nothing much stops Mr Badger once he gets something into his head, except maybe Jeyes fluid spread as a deterrent.

I think Ziggy is right, Jeyes Fluid in a reasonably strong solution should put them off.:D

Thank u v much guys . I'll give it a go . Anythings worth a try but am I wrong in thinking that jeyes is a bit of a herbicide ? I know it's a mossicide and an algicide , is it a grassicide too ? : )

Not to my knowledge, Wozwoz. It does kill micro organisms true, but I don't think it will kill grass if the solution is right. Try a test patch on a out of the way piece of grass then, if all is well, try a test patch right where the Badgers are going most.:D

Wow.. Must admit I would love a few Badgers popping in and out of my garden .
Slightly p the Village from me they had a few problems with them . I think they just gave up in the end though and made quite a few raised beds..

There's possibly another way Wozwoz. I heard somewhere that if you scatter a lot of peanuts over the ground the badgers will be more interested in eating them than in digging up your lawn - it might be worth a try if the other methods don't work or if you don't want to use very harsh chemicals.

I think hair tends to be for foxes, but you could try hanging a few socks or tights full of hair on the boundary where they are getting in.

I'm not so sure encouraging the Badgers with peanuts is such a good idea if you're thinking of ways to discourage them visiting permanently. Besides, when the "word" gets out about the peanuts other wildlife might turn up:what:, and you'd need a fair amount to keep them fed and have to keep it up. I have a special liking for Badgers, especially as a Senior Manager that was my nickname amongst the "Troops" but, unfortunately, there's none around my area:D

I think Ziggy has a badger fetish ! Where do you find them mate !:dancy:
In passing I would love to have a badger family digging up my lawn, or have a fox wander accross. My neighbour across the street feeds Foxes in his garden but all we have is the odd slug and snail :dunno:

 I can't understand you blokes...... Why are you not out marking your territories & boundaries with your pee..???? :heehee:
That is the only way I know of that has any effect on them at all.... It is a local answer round here anyway..... Seems to work too...!!! So why not try it..!!!

:WINK1: Seriously.. Save your pee in something in the day time so it gets a bit stronger as strong the better obviously, then at dusk pour it around your garden..!! :D

I'd have to have a few Brown Ales to have the "brass" to go around peeing on my garden, Marley, besides nothing four legged gets into it due to the height of the fence, well, except for the odd grey squirrel or two.
Maybe we should hire a coach and a load of us, with a load of suitable liquid refreshment, should go down to Wozwoz's garden and contribute to the "solution" [pardon the pun}:heehee::loll::yess:

Oh, Marley, if I don't have to stand out there to do it, it'll take all the fun out of it:hapfeet::yahoo::heehee:
