Floods, droughts, olympics and politics - my conspiracy theory

As we all know, many parts of the country are still in a state of drought as declared by the environment agency, a government body.

Also as we all know, there's been a lot of rain lately. In fact there's been enough to cause flash flooding, and there have already been a few tragedies of people being drowned and/or washed away.

Ok, I get that a few days of rain doesn't equal full reservoirs, but when you see streets under 5ft of water in areas that are officially in drought, one has to wonder what sort of logic is being applied.

Then I thought about it a bit. We have the olympics in a few months. One estimate I heard on TV was that the UK population will temporarily increase by as much as 30% for the duration of the games. That's a big strain on the infrastructure. Furthermore, we'll be wanting to show our foreign guests just how lush and bountiful our little land is. We can't be having all those new gardens at the olympic sites wilting due to the sprinklers having been turned off.

So I bet the gov came up with the idea of putting the brakes on our water usage between now and after the olympics, so that we can save up so that we can make our great show of being lush and bountiful

 

Can you believe they are talking about standpipes in every sreet if we have another dry winter.........What planet are they on?......

 

Meet the decision makers.

 

They always tell us to save rain water.
Isn't that what they are supposed to do also.

"Its the wrong kind of rain, its landing on hard ground and running off".

So develop a means of catching it, isn't that what we pay them for,.. professional expertise?
What other service industry has their product dumped on them from above and all they have to do is collect it.
They even have trouble keeping in the pipes once they have managed to catch it.

If the gas company had the same leakage rate as the water companies there wouldn't be very much of Britain left still standing.

 

Newsflash: All Olympic swimming events are cancelled due to the severe water shortage.

There will, however, be a 400 metre Olympic freestyle paddle.

Judging by some of the photos GC members have sent in, they are doing their damndest to keep it all for themselves. Ponds where lawns once were, lakes forming over patios.... No wonder Water Companies are in a mess.

I've said it before but I still don't understand why we have this hosepipe ban nonsense every so often. We live on an island (Island: noun. Piece of land surrounded by water). Is it beyond the wit of man to build desalination plants for use such in circumstances?

I recall standpipes in 1976 and can't help but wonder what the industry have done about water management in the intervening what? nearly 40 years? Well, my water company has put up the price of water, and the cost of sewerage and introduced water meters. In a recent leaflet they told me 'The money from bills will help pay for our £1.8 billion programme of service and infrastructure improvements .....'

Furthermore, it helpfully lists what these are, and at No. 1 is ....

'The improvements will: Safeguard water supplies' Oh?

Interestingly, another leaflet from the same company, tells me that ' .... typically 92.5% of the water used is returned to the sewers ...'

So my question is - what the ๛*hg are they doing with it?

 

Lease them an access point on the edge of your property. Don't forget the annual increase due to inflation - and charge them a flood levy for any drips that you have to deal with by seepage into YOUR land

 

All this and I have a leak in my roof! I had almost enough water in my downstairs loo to help out the Olympic pools!
