Landlord arranged for new flooring to put in.

8.30 am men arrive - start stripping floor to put leveller down.
9.00 am gas leak started ! gas switched off. Floor cleared.... now waiting for workman
to come and see where the break in the pipe is.

So instead of floor levelling compound being down and curing, now have to
wait for them to come tomorrow morning.

Why is there always something to come along and stuff up the whole day.

It means my whole week has to be re-planned.:wallbanging:

It was on a Wednesday evening, that the Gas man came to call!! :love30:

It turns out that the carpet men who came this morning damaged the
copper gas pipe.:thud: so a temporary repair has been done, at least we have heating and cooking.:ThankYou:

So, now I probably have to have a bit of the flooring dug up, and maybe some of the
wall covering, to put a new piece of pipe in. :wallbanging:

So, at this point we do not know when the new floor will be put down. :help:

Just when I wanted to have the kitchen cleared and ready for my grandson,
who was coming to see me, as I have not seen him for 2 months.

Just as well we do not own this house..a lot to be said for renting.:spinning:

Were the people that came to do the floor actually skilled in what they were coming to do, or were they typical private landlord's cronies? I'm sure some landlords are good, but when I used to rent (for a lot of years) any work that had to be done was done as cheap as possible usually by a chap that the landlord's mate from the pub knows.

No, the men really had a bit of bad luck.

The pipe was laid very near to the floor at an angle, with one piece just level with
the skirting which was not flush with the floor, and when the shaving machine cleared that bit of floor, it went underneath the skirting.

I went with the landlord to the company who were going to lay the flooring, and they have been trading for donkey's years in our town.

The choice of floor was left to me, and it was not cheap.

I think my landlord is a reliable man, with anything not to much trouble to sort out if it crops up.

            :)

              Update:
Landlord been in and had a chip away at the flooring around the copper pipe.

Now will have to have pipework re-routed, so now waiting for plumber from last night to
call back and see what the job entails.

Now, it means that the floor is held up for a couple more days, so that means not before the
              beginning of next week.

So, washing machine put back in, so at least I can clear the backlog.:rolleyespink:

Sorry to hear about the flooring! At least they turned up, I once waited nearly 6 months to have a radiator bled. Some landlords are awful.

I had something similar happen. Bought a new light for the bathroom and ended up having to get the whole house rewired as the wiring was too dangerous to leave as it was.

                My sympathy to you liliana.

Last time I was in a rented house (which was actually slowly sliding down the hill and breaking up as it did so, but that's another story), I eventually got the landlord to send an electrician round to sort out the buzzing, smoking thing on the wall. The sparky noticed a number of very dangerous things in the kitchen and asked if he could have a look around the rest of the house. I agreed. We went down to the cellar where the meters and fuse box were. He said he hadn't noticed an earth strap. We both spotted the earth strap at the same time, both swore in disbelief and looked at each other, literally speechless. I managed to find some words first, and asked, unable to believe my eyes "Is that doorbell wire carrying the earth connection for the entire house?". "Yes", he replied simply. We moved out shortly after that.

                  Update:

New plumber called this morning - will be able to do the work on Saturday.:help: Also floor fitters arrived, they were not informed of the situation, and not to call, but they never got the message.:mute:

Old pipework will be cut off, new pipe will be taken from outside through the wall to
the wardrobe, up to the loft, across the ceiling, to the boiler, then down to old pipe and making a new connection.:rolleyespink:

Undid the wardrobe , now have to put it all back again. :wallbanging::wallbanging::wallbanging:

Then landlord coming in on Monday morning to put new flooring over pipework.

Tuesday, hopefully floor fitters will be back to lay levelling compound.

Wednesday......hopefully might have new floor.:fingers crossed:

                  UPDATE:

Yay, I have a new floor  All fitted by 3.30 pm.

Landlord came and put all the equipment back in, and all the skirting,
and tidied all the little bits and bobs. So by 4.15 pm we were having a cup of tea.:blue thumb:

Thank goodness that is all over. :star:
