I snapped this more to remind me of the flower and the name only to find (I think) that I have the flower from one plant and the label from another, fool that I am.

Can anyone ID the flower please?

    Thanks

I may have to disagree here.........:help:
The sepal area looks totally wrong for Passiflora.
Can't take the id any further forward though.

Could it be a Caiophora? Here's a photo I took of C.hibiscifolia at OBG last year.....................

I'm kinda liking that id. Not right (I think) as the flowers and buds clearly face upwards in all the photos, but it does rather kick my thoughts on the sepal area out of bed:redface: Possibly one of it's close relatives though?

Passiflora Coccinea is another thought but I couldn't find a decent picture of it.

It's difficult to tell in GG's picture which leaves belong to what, but I don't think any of them match your plant Longk.

Hoping to be growing it this year so I'll let you know.

I don't think that it's C.hibiscifolia but there are another fifty odd species in the genus, with a wide variety of leaf shapes and textures.

Gay Gardener...where was your pic taken?
It must be in a Botanical collection to have the proper permanent black labels. (they cost a fortune...to expensive for most amateurs!)
In my experience, if you send an e mail with your pic to the head of collections/curator/head gardener they will reply with an answer.

longk..love your pics of Caiophora hibiscifolia.

Most interesting I have only seen Caiophora andina growing but would never have known that Caiophora hibiscifolia. were related.

This is an interesting link on them...

P.S.Passiflora has over 500 sp. so may still be in the running.

Hopefully I'll be showing photos of flowers on my own plants this year!

That one looks more like it's cousin Loasa.

Agreed. It's a very diverse genus.

Well, if only I'd taken a few better photos, but it was just intended as an aide memoire. It was taken at the Palm House at the Botanical Gardens in Copenhagen, I will contact the curator to clarify things hopefully.

            Thanks all.

I'm off gardening at the mo for obvious reasons, but just in case anyone is interested, I did hear back from the curator in Copenhagen and it is Pavonia Multiflora (common name Brazilian Candles, which is rather nice).

              Thanks

                Glad to share silver surfer.
Although there were lots of good guesses I think the Pavonia is more refined looking, more genteel if you know what I mean.

                Cheers
